Our Cues  /  MK SERIES

Plain butt

The butt is left as the tree grew it. Natural colour, natural grain, ring work at the joints and nothing set into the wood itself. Quicker to build than an inlaid butt, and a good deal harder to get right, because there is no ornament to pull your eye away from a bad line.

Five references, five timbers. They all play the same. Pick the one you want to look at for the next ten years, or tell us how you play and we will point you at one.

Muraki MK01 pool cue in bocote

MK01 – Bocote

Bocote

Dark ribbons through honey coloured grain. The figure never repeats, so no two are alike.

Muraki MK02 pool cue in ebony

MK02 – Ebony

Ebony

Near black, dense and unforgiving on the lathe. The quietest cue we make.

Muraki MK03 leopardwood cue butt with black leather wrap

MK03 – Leopardwood

Leopardwood

Warm russet with bright flecks. Takes lacquer better than anything else on the bench.

Muraki MK04 pool cue in bird's-eye maple

MK04 – Bird’s-Eye Maple

Bird’s-Eye Maple

Pale grain with a thousand small eyes that move as the light moves.

Muraki MK05 purpleheart cue butt with black leather wrap

MK05 – Purpleheart

Purpleheart

Violet now, dark plum in ten years. The wood keeps working after you buy it.

Want a plain butt in something else?

We hold eight timbers on the rack, not five. Hard maple, cocobolo and tulipwood are all built plain on request.

Not sure which timber?

Tell us what you play with now and how you like a cue to feel. We will tell you which of these you will probably get on with, and we will say so if none of them suit.
